Duct leakage testing is a method of testing the leakage rate of a specified section of a duct system. The section of duct to be tested is sealed off from the rest of the duct system, and a test fan is installed at one end to provide pressure. The static pressure in the duct is monitored. The pressure difference is measured across an orifice plate in a calibrated orifice tube, and from the ∆P, the leakage rate is determined from a chart for that orifice tube.
Many projects specify that leakage in the completed duct system cannot exceed a given amount. On these jobs, tests are performed to verify that the leakage is within job specifications. This is usually done before the system is operating.
We have conducted duct leak testing on a variety of projects. We can perform the testing for you or we can provide a leak test machine to your crew and teach them how to perform the test. Premier would then come to witness the test and document it in a report. This allows the majority of the testing to be done by the contractor which can help reduce the cost.
These same machines can be used for room leak testing. In some critical spaces such as isolation rooms and clean rooms it is necessary to make sure the room shell is sealed. We can perform these tests by modifying a window or door to accept the test machine hose.
